I don’t plan to post Genshin often, but there are a few older drawings I want to reshare, bear with me
Fanart I made for @sunjinjo ’s wonderful fic: A Cage of Our Own Making (https://archiveofourown.org/works/51807472)
The story stars Scaramouche, Nahida, and Furina, and explores how their meeting changed each of them for the better! I highly recommend it if you love these three and like long reads!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene happens near the end of the fic, I wont go into detail, but it was a lot of fun imagining how a willow fairy outfit would fit Furina :D I had a bunch of sketches I ended up losing, but the photos are probably up on instagram

hate when i see a youtube video that's like 'analyzing why [thing] is bad!' and you watch the video and they just say nothing for twenty minutes
#random thoughts#watched a video on why a specific character was poor representation for survivors of assault#and it was such a nothing burger of a video#'this character is bad because children might see them and think their behavior is okay' okay?#i learned how to block out memories from finn adventure time but that doesn't mean memory suppression shouldn't be addressed in media#plus hazbin hotel. i'm talking about angel dust btw if that wasn't blaringly obvious. is an adult cartoon. for adults#adult cartoons shouldn't have to restrict their subject matter because kids could see it#and angel dust being a male queer SA victim using hypersexuality as a coping mechanism could be good!#and the fact he hits on other people despite it making them uncomfortable isn't exactly a problem a la his character?#it could be a control thing. i used to do something similar (pushing other people's boundaries and complaining when they pushed back)#because it made me feel some kind of control over my life#it could start off as a really shitty joke and then grow into 'oh god is that why he does that??'#but anyway their second main point was that the songs were bad? and that poison being an upbeat song makes it bad#like despite listing many other songs which are upbeat with heavy lyrics. but somehow poison is the exception because it's a cartoon?#like again that could be a character thing. angel dust using obfuscation as a coping mechanism to distract himself from his shitty life.#。・゚゚・the lyrics are upbeat to distract you from how dead i feel inside・゚゚・。#and their reading of the second song seemed really mean-spirited?#like as 'everyone has problems so you're not special because you're a whiny baby' rather than 'you're not as alone as you think you are'#and like if op wanted to just complain about a show they watched then yeah go off i do that all the time#but don't parade it as character analysis???#and they say 'oh reading it as a feelgood you're not alone message doesn't work because these characters' struggles are not equal'#but like. sometimes rape needs to feel like it's not some special trauma. it's not unique and you're not uniquely fucked up for it#two characters' traumas don't need to be directly comparable for them to bond!!!#and im not like. defending hazbin hotel btw. never seen it not going to see it no thanks#i'm just complaining about a mediocre youtube video that i'm going to forget about in a week#god i hate that brand of youtube video. where they just complain about things without going into depth about why they're bad#especially if their complaints are shallow and don't have to do with like. the actual structure of a character or story#like it's so easy to say 'this character is bad because theyre a predatory stereotype' but like. go into some depth at least#i think i hate these videos so much because they're fueled purely by hate. no love for the source material or even a desire to learn#or a love for storytelling even

is homophobia really not a thing anymore in some areas these days or do fic writers just forget what being young is like? there's so many fics in which the children/teenagers have no idea people view being gay as strange or wrong (until someone makes a homophobic remark) and I don't get how you could think a teenager (sometimes they're like 14!) wouldn't be aware of this. like I don't think my family ever went on homophobic tirades or anything like that but i think that from a young age i know that being gay wasn't something you could talk about and (though maybe you were supposed to be polite to these people) you couldn't wonder if you were gay or anyone you knew because even if people didn't talk about it you knew it was wrong and strange and would be insulting to and weird to think someone might be gay. idk just when people set a fic in the real world, maybe even in the 2000s or 1990s, and homophobia is a part of it and it's not a sort of AU without homophobia, the kid character just doesn't know being gay is like very taboo and just sees it exactly the same as being straight
like you noticed there were no stories about boys and boys or girls and girls and i didn't know any (openly) gay people until like year 2 of high school when we had a gay teacher or gay teachers or something. none of my friends had gay parents and i didn't know any gay people in our neighbourhood. i know these days primary schools have pride events but in my days that wasn't a thing. i knew gay people existed but i knew i couldn't/shouldn't be gay. i mean heteronormativity still exists now. even though a kid knows gay people exist, if everyone you know is in a 'straight' relationship and if you're always assumed to be straight and so is everybody else except some people who are negatively assumed to be gay maybe, you will know what is "normal" and what is not

“How can you not like Christmas?” Magnus demanded, outraged. “That’s like not liking pizza!”

Magnus gaped at him. “What?”
“I don’t like Christmas,” Alec repeated, finally looking up from scrolling through notes on the computer. “Is that a problem?”

also more odds & ends orville info & more not Not orville/phil info as well:
"In Steinkellner’s version of Summer Stock, Jane Falbury (Danielle Wade) and “Pop,” her father (Stephen Lee Anderson), are struggling to hang on to the family farm. Their farm is one of the few in the Connecticut River Valley that hasn’t been absorbed by the Wingates, whose holdings completely surround theirs.
The widow Margaret Wingate (Veanne Cox), whom son Orville (Will Roland) aptly describes as having eyes “as cold as death itself,” plans to absorb the Falbury farm by the simple expedient of having Orville marry Jane. After all the two kids had decided they were engaged in first grade!
Enter the prodigal younger sister Gloria (Arianna Rosario) who has been seduced by the lure of the Great White Way. She returns to the farm bringing along Joe Ross (Corbin Bleu in the Gene Kelly role), the director of the show that will make her a star, its composer Phil Filmore (Gilbert L. Bailey II), and the entire company. She has generously offered the company, which can’t afford rehearsal space in New York, the use of the family farm’s barn. Sister Jane reluctantly agrees to the intrusion with the proviso that the thespians will double as farm hands.
As rehearsals progress, Phil discovers that Orville, a bit of a doormat who has been raised with the understanding that he will never have to work, is a musical wunderkind. He is enlisted to work his magic on the show’s score and begins to blossom.
Widow Wingate takes umbrage with all this and vows to shut the enterprise down. Fortunately, the cold embers in her soul are stirred to renewed life by her encounter with Montgomery Leach (J. Anthony Crane), the has-been ham enlisted to give Ross’s show some cachet, so all might not be lost.
[...]
They make this Summer Stock a veritable feast of nostalgia. I was especially taken by the amusing way Steinkellner used Jackie Gleason’s theme song “Always” to further widow Wingate’s plot to get Jane and Orville hitched.
[...]
Orville, who has found personal liberation in show biz, is accorded a moment that reminded me of a similar scene in the musical version of The Producers. In a triumphant declaration of his emergence from under his mother’s thumb he exults, “I’m in the theatre! And I love it!” The audience loved it, too.
[...]
As director, Feore has elicited some wonderful performances, especially from subsidiary characters. Veanne Cox is splendid as Margaret Wingate as is J. Anthony Crane as Montgomery Leach, the faded matinee idol. Will Roland (Orville) and Gilbert L. Bailey II (Phil) both have wonderful moments and their intense professional friendship is one of the show’s highlights."
INTENSE PROFESSIONAL FRIENDSHIP you say....and also ofc everything about orville and wanting to be a musician and being in the theatre and he loves it sounds so good. i love it
#summer stock#orville wingate#will roland#also i guess they Are ambiently together / ''engaged'' already then lol#very cute really ''decided they were engaged in first grade''...and illustrative of both just kinda having been stuck in life the whole tim#mention of how the gene kelly epic solo tap sequence that i can muse on context for but Does just kinda happen#now does have more context and like. a part in an arc lol. which also gene/joe just doesn't have much of at all in the film; so (an arc)#needless bit at the end as the reviewer is skeptical this show could be on broadway basically b/c it's not ''edgy'' enough#which is then bafflingly & exhaustingly explained w/juxtaposing ''disclaimers'' abt the content in Other shows on broadway#which is bad; irrelevant; bigoted; and also unfair not just to those shows but summer stock lol. and like everything. and everyone.#get tf outta here....talking about like well gee i guess an ontario reviewer like me might enjoy it but in New York....#like it's an nyt critics pick okay cool it. have Only read glowing reviews save the one critic who Didn't like the warm feelgood deal.#which is sure a thing that's possible to experience (though i don't think it makes for a Well Executed; Useful Review to hinge it on that)#but (a) warm feelgood material isn't like. riskier than what you deem Not ''unfashionably'' ''old-fashioned'' there#& (b) like many reviews point out that the feelgoodness Could've fallen flat or short or been too much but it was balanced / well executed#like don't come in here insulting the show with your supposed compliments lmao....Bizarre brushstroke of [ugh you know bway] shows....#which it then gestures broadly at as shows with a ''message''....just tiresome & useless little tangent at the end smhhh#anyways really do love this for orville. was already wondering if he plays that piano we see them dancing with...their adorable meetcute?#i would like to see it....makes it seem even more likely. or who knows if it's orville just reading some music left At that piano#and singing but also composing? arranging? in doing so....harmonizing....etc#i bet it's a delight. he Does get to work on the show....he's truly getting I Don't Dance'd brought into the show/theatre ft. bisexuality#taking votes for whether he's chad or ryan in that situation. the one not already in theatre but also the one attached to the antagonist

“I, think our eyes are more romantic than our bodies, they can't foresee each other so they find the best pair to look at, so it reflects the love they share. Our brain has more chemistry than our souls. Few moments are entangled more than we realise and it's a common play, resume, pause and repeat in the name of memories.”
